So, MF and Shirogane came first… but BB and Undertaker (et al) have the staying power. ![]() We’ve had three seasons (note: season two is an original story created by the anime team), lots of ova’s, an animated movie that’s kind of a stand-in for (in place of) season four, two anthologies, two artwork books, various other artwork and design publications, a gazillion merch items, a (in my opinion completely throw-away) live-action film with a future setting, and… five stage musicals. The anime is also ongoing, though there are gaps in production. The manga is into its 12th year now, and 26 volumes have been published. The anime has a strong shōnen-ai (BL) aspect that is almost (but not entirely) missing from the manga.īlack Butler, on the other hand, is very much an ongoing series (which is why my focus is theories and predictions), and the fandom is strong. ![]() ![]() The anime only ran in 2008, but that was 24 episodes. Best I can tell (by reading Wikipedia) about Monochrome Factor, it was considered a shōnen manga from 2004 until 2007, when it changed magazines (previous mag stopped being published) and then targeted the shōjo market until the manga series was ended in 2011.
